Women are the Future of STEM

KBG Technologies proudly participated in the American Heart Association’s 3rd Annual STEM Goes Red for Girls event at the Herff College of Engineering at the University of Memphis in May. STEM Goes Red for Girls is an initiative aimed at encouraging and inspiring young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Although women account for more than half of college graduates, only a small percentage will pursue careers in STEM fields. Not only are young women missing out on rewarding career opportunities, but the underrepresentation of women in STEM means a valuable talent pool is being overlooked.

As a catalyst sponsor, Kathy Buckman Gibson and team hoped to inspire the next generation of female scientists by providing an interactive hands-on chemistry exercise, as well as firsthand accounts of professional journeys in the field. Over one hundred female 8th graders participated in small group breakout sessions. By providing an engaging and relatable experience, KBG Technologies sought to demonstrate how rewarding STEM careers are and highlight the significant contributions women can make in the chemistry field.
